Legal Status

IICD was incorporated in November 1986 as a Massachusetts not-for-profit educational organization. IICD, Inc. is an independent non-profit. In August 1987 the Internal Revenue Service determined that IICD is an organization as described in the revenue code 501(c) 3. This means that IICD is exempt from federal taxation of its educational activities and that donors can deduct donations to IICD from the income declared in their tax return.

Additionally, the commonwealth of Massachusetts has granted IICD, Inc exemption from state taxes and from Massachusetts state sales tax. In 1989 staff and students started extensive fundraising in Massachusetts and other states. IICD has therefore registered in all states where we solicit funds.

The devastation of HIV/AIDS can be seen everywhere. The epidemic has torn the fabric of society. Members for the HOPE program will work with the people of Angola in the fight against the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Education is the key to development work, In order to create long-term benefits for the people of Angola, education must be a priority.
