Investigation, outreach, action week:
The team plans this week together. It could be an investigation with a headline for the whole team or it could be several investigations carried out by smaller groups. The investigation could include massive outreach as well as an action to do something in relation to the topic under investigation.
Fundraising:
Skills to acquire before and during the fundraising weeks include:
Sales training, people skills, non verbal communication, giving a presentation, what any American should know
about poverty, etc.
The total goal to raise per student is $3,000. The team is on a team goal.
The travel period has these training and learning areas:

Period 3: 4 months fighting shoulder to shoulder with the poor
A major theme of this period is Combat Training in the Noble Art of Fighting Shoulder to Shoulder with the Poor.
This theme includes elements such as:
 Community work in a Humana People to People project in Latin America
 How to eradicate poverty
 How to prevent disease
 Income generation for those who have little to start from
 Child care - what all parents should know about the needs of children
 Family planning, prevention of STDs and HIV/AIDS
 Operating a club or an association of small scale farmers
 Nutrition that builds health and strength and how to get hold of the foods
 School programs for children who need to learn much more
 Literacy classes
 Preschools for all preschoolers
 Fundraising for child aid and fighting poverty
 Accessing government grants for the poor
 Marketing for small scale producers
 Building community spirit
 Open Sundays
 Art and culture as a means to strengthen trust in a better future
Period 2: 1 month travel
 How to run a women's club
 Community cleaning actions
 The importance of caring for the old and the sick
 How to establish an orphan program
 How to go against alcohol, drug abuse and violence
 How the poor can join hands when the rich refuses to lend them a hand
 How to move from subsistence living to being part of the market economy
Together with the other participants and the Humana People to People project leader you are also engaged in
further studies and considerations as to your effort and future - encompassing such issues as:

 A united Americas/A world united - futile dream or meaningful vision
 My strong and weak sides and what to do about them
 More language training - reading novels, newspapers and more

Period 4: 1month spreading knowledge in the USA
Outreach is the main topic of this period. It can take many forms exploiting the special capacities of each member of the team, needs realizing while fighting shoulder to shoulder with the poor in how to spread the word about the need to stand shoulder to shoulder with the poor.
Elements of this period includes:
 Information work in USA via presentations
 Exhibitions in streets, schools, libraries and work places
 Drama and theater as an element of presentations, on stage or in the streets
 Global digital information about the realities of people in Latin America, giving a voice to those rarely heard via the school web site, articles on numerous other sites, e-mail to friends or in chat rooms
 Making a film about fighting with the poor or about rich and poor in the Americas
 Going on a tour with the bus as the hub of numerous outreach activities
 Finding 10 new participants for the next team to ensure the steady expansion of the fight against poverty as it is played out in Humana People to People
 Arranging a conference for schools in the area
 Giving presentations in 20 community centers that care for the poor of the inner cities

HOPE

The devastation of HIV/AIDS can be seen everywhere. The epidemic has torn the fabric of society. Members for the HOPE program will work with the people of Angola in the fight against the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
