My thoughts on the travel period

Okay world, here are my thoughts on the travel period so far: it has been great.  We have so far traveled through three separate cities exploring them to the best of our abilities within the short period of time we have.  They all seem to have a variety of good and bad characteristics associated with each.
Our first city was Sao Paulo, the largest city in Latin America.  This city was quite astonishing just by sheer size and population.  We met up with a project called, "Um teto para meu pais," which was a group that went into favelas of Sao Paulo in order to see which families needed new homes the most.  We specifically went into the favela, "Anita Garibaldi," and met with a lot of amazing people for interviews concerning the project.  The people were extremely nice and accepting of us in their homes.  Some of the homes we went into were an embarrassment to humanity.  How could we, as fellow humans let people live in places without out proper sanitation, let people hand their clothes on barbwire, and let people sleep on floors that never dry.  It was really an eye-opening experience and great preparation for out project ahead.  Also in Sao Paulo, we toured the city with bus and train looking for items that help us better understand the Brazilian mind-set.  From my observations, it seems as though traffic and drugs are the main issues concerning Sao Paulo; the driving makes Sao Paulo look like a lawless city and the drugs are apparent in most places.  The most disturbing thing I saw some kids smoking crack in the park. They must not have been over 14 years old.
The next city we entered was Curitiba in Parana.  This city seemed a lot more composed and orderly than Sao Paulo.  The city was developed and had a lot of natural beauty, from architecture to public parks it was really well put together.  Also there was no visible homelessness within the city.  Everyone also seemed much more laid back and relaxed than in Sao Paulo.  The public transportation system there was extremely well organized and worthy of notation.  It had a bus system that was extremely similar to a train system and was always on time because of the two separate lanes that it occupied.  Overall it was a very well put together city with quite a lot going for it in the future.
The city we are currently in is Rio de Janeiro.  It is a very old city with a spectrum of differences within it.  It has the biggest separation of rich and poor in Brazil so far.  The beaches are wonderful and filled with beautiful rich people, while the streets are distressed with street children and the homeless.  Children sleep anywhere they can like a dog, plus most time they are treated worse.  They are the ghosts of the city, ignored and forgotten.  For a city with this much tourism you think more would be done in order to help these children.  Overall the city is nice and hectic, but we still have a few days here I will make sure to update, later.
